hottest pepper in the worldCarolina Reaper – hottest pepper in the world

The Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper in the world. It scores 2,200,000 on the Scoville scale. That is 200x hotter than the Jalapeno (!). The Guinness Book of Records established this in 2018. The pepper was cultivated by ‘Smokin’ Ed Curly. This horticulturist continues to develop hotter peppers.

But serious competition is on the way: this same grower developed ‘Pepper X’. He worked 10 years on it and this pepper is supposed to be a lot more spicy than the Carolina Reaper. It is supposed to reach a score of 3,180,000 which is almost 1 mimllion Scoville units hotter than the Carolina Reaper. That would make it the hottest pepper in the world. The Guinness Book of records still needs to verify this claim.

Another extremely hot pepper

The Dragon’s Breath pepper scores 2,480,000 but that was never officially veryfied by the Guinness Book of Records. By the way, this pepper is  not meant to for consumption. It was developed as a natural anaesthetic for those with an allergy for the ordinary anaesthetics.
